· Calcaneal fractures – This is a fracture in the heel bone that can lead to bone collapse
· Fifth metatarsal fractures – This is a crack or break of the long bone located on the outer foot, commonly caused by ankle rolls
· Ankle fractures – These fractures can be severe and shatter the ankle, and are generally caused by the ankle rolling inward or outward

· Pain at the fracture site
· Swelling
· Blisters that develop over the fracture

· Bone protruding through the skin (in severe cases)

Treatments

The treatment required for fractures is based on the severity of the injury. Following your doctor’s instructions for treatment are important, because untreated fractures can result in arthritis, infection , and chronic pain . Common treatments are:
· The R.I.C.E. method (rest, ice, compression, elevation) to reduce pain and swelling
· Prescription medications to relieve pain
· Immobilization with a cast or splint to allow the fracture to heal
· In some cases, surgery might be necessary to repair the fracture and surrounding soft tissues
